Day 8: Regeneration and renewal: the future of Consett’s heritage

Our week commemorating 140 years of iron and steel production, and the people who made it, is nearly over. It has been such a great way to recognise all the men and women who forged such a legacy, and here at History of Consett Steelworks we feel exhausted, but very happy. Thank you for all your feedback and comments, it has been fantastic to share this week with you.
Today we look to the future of Consett and the how the the heritage of its past may be enjoyed by everyone today, and for many days to come.
The Film Club Matinee is a double bill, blending the past with the present and showing Consett’s heritage against a backdrop of a bustling town and a beautiful location.
Our talk this evening is an online Q&A session on the future of Consett’s heritage: it’s presentation, preservation and access for all. History of Consett Steelworks Group (HCSW) have brought together all the major organisations who have a stake in Consett’s heritage for an open floor discussion. We have representatives from:
Project Genesis
Consett and District Heritage Initiative
Land of Oak and Iron
and of course Richard Judd and Victoria Stevens for HCSW.
We’ll be discussing proposals for the new heritage centre, as well as finding out from the audience what sort of initiatives you would like us to develop that have the greatest appeal and relevance to you.
So join us to debate Consett’s heritage future: we’d love to hear your views!
